What Is ALCATEL-IND1-PORT-MIB?
ALCATEL-IND1-PORT-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch proprietary MIB for Ethernet and Fibre Channel switching module port configuration, covering speed, duplex, flow control, and other physical-port parameters. Beyond basic configuration it includes Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM) objects that read transceiver temperature and configurable warning thresholds, dying-gasp objects reporting chassis ID and power supply type at the moment of a power loss, and driver-level trap-drop counters. This gives it strong hardware-health relevance: ddmTemperature and ddmTempLowWarning let operators detect an SFP/transceiver overheating or running outside its safe operating range, while dying-gasp objects provide last-gasp notification of power supply failure. It layers vendor-specific transceiver and power-event monitoring on top of the standard IF-MIB rather than replacing physical/optical interface management wholesale. It is deployed on OmniSwitch chassis with pluggable optics, where transceiver health and power-loss detection are operationally important. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-PORT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll ddmInfoTable/ddmInfoEntry for ddmTemperature on each transceiver and compare it against ddmTempLowWarning to catch an optic running outside its rated temperature range before it fails outright. Watching esmDrvTrapDrops would reveal whether the switch's SNMP trap subsystem is dropping notifications due to overload, meaning other alerts could be silently lost. A dying-gasp trap carrying alaDyingGaspChassisId and alaDyingGaspPowerSupplyType would immediately flag which chassis and power supply lost power, useful for correlating a site-wide outage.

Note also that an RMON probe inside a repeater should ideally report collisions between the repeater and one or more other hosts (transmit collisions as defined by IEEE 802.3k) plus receiver collisions observed on any coax segments to which the repeater is connected. |
