What Is ALCATEL-IND1-MAC-ADDRESS-MIB?

ALCATEL-IND1-MAC-ADDRESS-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise proprietary MIB for the OmniSwitch "Birds Of Prey" product line's MAC address learning subsystem, covering aging timers, global and per-VLAN learning control, and static MAC address configuration. It exposes an aging table controlling how long learned MAC addresses remain in the forwarding database, and separate global and per-VLAN learning-control tables that enable or disable dynamic MAC learning. For device status monitoring it lets an administrator confirm whether MAC learning is enabled on a given VLAN, check the configured aging timeout, and detect if learning has been inadvertently disabled, which would explain unexpected flooding or failure to forward traffic to known destinations. It complements the standard BRIDGE-MIB/Q-BRIDGE-MIB forwarding database tables with Alcatel-specific learning controls. It is typically deployed on Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch access and core switches where fine-grained control over MAC learning behavior per VLAN is required. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-MAC-ADDRESS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IND1-MAC-ADDRESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch (Birds Of Prey product line)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check slMacLearningControlTable/slMacLearningControlEntry for slMacLearningControlStatus globally, and slMacLearningVlanControlTable for slMacLearningVlanControlStatus on a specific VLAN, to confirm MAC learning is enabled where expected. If a VLAN shows learning disabled unexpectedly, along with an unusually short slMacAgingValue in slMacAddressAgingTable, this would explain excessive flooding or premature aging of MAC entries on that VLAN.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAC address aging timeout
  • global MAC learning enable state
  • per-VLAN MAC learning enable state
  • static MAC address configuration
