Description: Alcatel OmniSwitch NTP client/server MIB for managing time synchronization servers, keys, and stratum settings.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALCATEL-IND1-NTP-MIB?
ALCATEL-IND1-NTP-MIB is an Alcatel (now Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise) proprietary MIB for the OmniSwitch line, covering configuration and monitoring of the switch's Network Time Protocol (NTP) client and server functions. It exposes data on NTP operating mode (enable/disable, broadcast mode, monitoring), and a peer table listing each configured time-source peer along with its address, type, authentication settings, protocol version, and polling interval. As a monitoring tool it is used to verify that the switch's software clock-synchronization service is healthy, confirming NTP is enabled, that configured peers are reachable and correctly authenticated, and that time sync has not silently failed, which matters because clock drift on a switch can corrupt log timestamps and break certificate/security validation. It is a self-contained enterprise MIB but conceptually parallels the IETF NTP model even though it does not formally import the standard NTPv4 MIB. It is typically deployed on Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch campus/data-center switches to keep switch clocks synchronized with upstream time servers. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-NTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IND1-NTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch enterprise/campus switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check alaNtpEnable and alaNtpMonitorEnable to confirm NTP service and monitoring are turned on, then walk alaNtpPeerTable/alaNtpPeerEntry to see each configured peer's alaNtpPeerAddress, alaNtpPeerType, and alaNtpPeerAuth settings. A peer entry showing an unreachable alaNtpPeerIpAddress or failing alaNtpPeerAuth would indicate the switch has lost its authenticated time source and may be drifting out of sync. Polling alaNtpPeerMinpoll alongside peer reachability helps confirm the switch is actually completing sync cycles rather than just having NTP configured.
What Can Be Monitored
- NTP client/server enable status
- NTP broadcast mode
- configured NTP peer list
- peer authentication status
- peer polling interval
- NTP monitoring status
