Category: Vendor: ADTRAN

Description: Manages Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) configuration and state on ADTRAN AOS devices for gateway failover.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ADTRAN-AOS-VRRP-MIB?

This MIB module is part of ADTRAN's AOS platform and manages Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP v2/v3) configuration and operational state on AOS devices used for gateway failover. It exposes the configured virtual router instances, their IP addresses, priority, and current operational status (master/backup), along with traps for VRRP state transitions. This MIB centers on software/protocol health monitoring: administrators use it to confirm which router is acting as VRRP master, and to detect unexpected master/backup transitions or a router losing its virtual IP, which could indicate a gateway or link failure. It is part of ADTRAN's AOS enterprise MIB tree and closely parallels the standard IETF VRRP-MIB, following similar table and notification conventions. It is typically deployed in pairs or groups of ADTRAN routers providing redundant default-gateway service at a customer site or branch office. Engineers can download the ADTRAN-AOS-VRRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADTRAN-AOS-VRRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ADTRAN AOS router pair providing VRRP gateway redundancy

Monitoring Examples

Polling adGenAOSVrrpTable's adGenAOSVrrpOperStatus and adGenAOSVrrpPriority for a given adGenAOSVrrpId and adGenAOSVrrpInetAddr reveals whether this router currently holds the master role for a virtual IP and at what priority. A trap from adGenAOSVrrpTrap combined with adGenAOSVrrpMasterTrapCntl settings would alert an admin that a backup router just became master, indicating the previous master router failed or lost connectivity.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VRRP instance operational status (master/backup)
  • VRRP virtual IP address
  • VRRP priority
  • VRRP version
  • VRRP master transition traps
