What Is AATS-MIB?

AATS-MIB supports Broadband Antenna Tracking Systems used in satellite communications ground equipment, providing management objects for antenna pointing control, tracking state, and RF link quality for the associated radio. It exposes status categories such as overall system status (active/stowed), tracking/pointing state, and radio link metrics including received signal strength (RSSI) and link status. It is directly used for monitoring hardware health and operational status: cpuTemp exposes the tracking controller's CPU temperature for thermal monitoring, radioConnected and linkStatusString/linkStatusInt reveal whether the associated radio link is up, and rssiString/rssiInt/rssiFloat quantify signal quality, together flagging degraded pointing accuracy or a lost satellite link. It appears to be a standalone vendor MIB for the BATS antenna-tracking software without a stated dependency on other MIBs. Typical deployment is in satellite ground stations or mobile SATCOM terminals where continuous antenna tracking and link-quality monitoring are safety/operationally critical. Engineers can download the AATS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll status alongside active and stowed indicator objects to confirm the antenna is actively tracking rather than parked, and check cpuTemp to catch thermal issues in the tracking controller. Polling radioConnected together with linkStatusString/linkStatusInt and rssiInt/rssiFloat would reveal a degrading satellite link (low RSSI) before it results in a full loss of signal.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cpuTemp OID:

Select a Broadband Antenna Tracking Systems (BATS) ground terminal as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cpuTemp into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. Specifies if the cpu temperature in celsius (-1000 if n/a). On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the reported value exceeds the level expected for healthy operation, since sustained high temperature often precedes thermal shutdown or hardware degradation. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
