What Is A3COM-IPX-R5-MIB?
A3COM-IPX-R5-MIB is a proprietary 3Com R5-family enterprise MIB for managing Novell IPX routing protocol configuration and statistics on legacy 3Com routers. It defines IPX interface configuration, RIP/SAP routing table data, and traffic/error counters for the IPX protocol stack. It is used to monitor the software status of the routing process: RIP/SAP table sizes, IPX interface up/down state, and packet/error counters reveal whether IPX routing is functioning correctly on a given interface. It parallels the same conceptual structure as standard IP-oriented routing MIBs like RIP2-MIB, but is entirely proprietary to 3Com's own IPX stack implementation with no formal dependency on an IETF IPX standard. It was deployed in legacy enterprise networks (1990s-2000s) still running Novell NetWare/IPX alongside 3Com routers, and administrators supporting such legacy gear can still find the A3COM-IPX-R5-MIB download to load into their MIB browser.
