Category: Routing Protocols, Vendor: 3Com
Description: Manages IPX routing policy configuration on 3Com routers, providing traffic filters and route redistribution rules for IPX protocol traffic.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is A3COM-IPXPOLICY-R3-MIB?
A3COM-IPXPOLICY-R3-MIB is a legacy vendor-specific MIB from 3Com covering IPX (Internetwork Packet Exchange) routing policy on 3Com's R3-series routers. It exposes configuration-oriented data such as traffic filter definitions, route redistribution rules, and policy-to-interface bindings that control how IPX routes and traffic propagate between segments. While primarily a configuration MIB, it can be polled to confirm that filters and redistribution rules are correctly applied and active, which indirectly reflects whether the IPX routing policy software on the device is functioning as intended. As a proprietary 3Com MIB it typically depends on 3Com's base enterprise MIB tree and standard IPX MIB definitions for underlying protocol counters. It would have been deployed in legacy Novell NetWare/IPX-based enterprise networks running 3Com routers, a technology area now largely obsolete, with the A3COM-IPXPOLICY-R3-MIB MIB retained today mainly for historical reference.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-IPXPOLICY-R3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- 3Com routers (R3-series)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were available in the extracted source for this module, so specific object names cannot be given honestly; based on the short description, a realistic use would be verifying that configured IPX traffic filters and route redistribution rules are active on the router and correctly bound to the intended interfaces.
What Can Be Monitored
- IPX traffic filter status
- route redistribution rule configuration
- policy-to-interface bindings
