Category: DSL and Broadband Access

Description: Manages Zhone Technologies GPON OLT and ONT configuration, T-CONT allocation, and optical power levels.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Zhone-GPON-MIB?

Zhone-GPON-MIB is a Zhone Technologies (telecom access equipment vendor) enterprise MIB for Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) equipment, covering both the OLT (Optical Line Terminal) at the carrier's central office and the ONT/ONU at the subscriber premises. Per its module description, it exposes GPON ONU configuration, alarms, and status objects, as well as GPON OLT status information, spanning provisioning data (such as T-CONT bandwidth allocation), alarm/fault notifications, and optical performance data. It is strongly oriented toward hardware and fault status monitoring: administrators use it to track optical power levels (transmit/receive), ONT online/offline/registration status, and active alarm conditions, together indicating the physical health of the fiber link and subscriber terminal. It operates in a GPON access network context, likely layered on top of or alongside standard PON/optical MIBs and the vendor's own chassis/system MIBs for OLT card and port identification. It is used by telecom/ISP operators managing fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) or fiber-to-the-business deployments built on Zhone GPON OLT and ONT hardware. Engineers can download the Zhone-GPON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Zhone-GPON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone GPON OLT
  • Zhone GPON ONT/ONU

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided in the source data, but consistent with the module description an administrator would typically poll ONU/ONT status and alarm tables to check optical receive power and registration state for each subscriber ONT, and a T-CONT allocation table to verify bandwidth assignment. A sudden drop in received optical power or an ONT transitioning to an offline/alarm state would indicate a fiber cut, dirty connector, or failed ONT requiring a truck roll.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ONT/ONU online/registration status
  • optical transmit/receive power levels
  • active alarm conditions
  • T-CONT bandwidth allocation
