Description: Monitors Zhone Technologies IP routing table entries, next-hop configuration, and route metric values.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHONE-COM-IP-ROUTE-MIB?

ZHONE-COM-IP-ROUTE-MIB is a Zhone Technologies vendor MIB implementing a CIDR IP routing table modeled on RFC 2096, extended to support multiple routing domains via augmentation of ZHONE-COM-IP-RD-MIB's rdTable. zhoneRouteInfoTable, which AUGMENTS rdEntry, exposes zhIpCidrRouteNumber, the count of valid routes per routing domain, while zhoneIpCidrRouteTable — indexed by rdIndex, zhIpCidrRouteDest, zhIpCidrRouteMask, and zhIpCidrRouteNextHop — holds each route's next-hop interface (zhIpCidrRouteIfIndex), route type/protocol (zhIpCidrRouteType, zhIpCidrRouteProto covering RIP/IS-IS/OSPF/BGP/ICMP-redirect/static), age since last update (zhIpCidrRouteAge), and up to five protocol-specific metrics (zhIpCidrRouteMetric1-5). This gives an operator visibility into the live forwarding table per routing domain — which routes exist, how they were learned, and how fresh they are — useful for diagnosing routing black holes or unexpected next-hop changes. It depends on ZHONE-COM-IP-RD-MIB for routing-domain indexing and IF-MIB's InterfaceIndexOrZero for next-hop interface identification, and is deployed on Zhone access/routing platforms; network engineers can complete a ZHONE-COM-IP-ROUTE-MIB download for use when managing these devices.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHONE-COM-IP-ROUTE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone Technologies access/routing platforms

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls zhoneIpCidrRouteTable for a specific routing domain to check zhIpCidrRouteNextHop and zhIpCidrRouteIfIndex for a destination prefix, cross-referencing zhIpCidrRouteAge; an unexpectedly high age combined with a zhIpCidrRouteType of reject would indicate a stale or broken route causing traffic to be discarded.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-routing-domain CIDR route table entries
  • route destination/mask/next-hop
  • route type and learning protocol
  • route age since last update
  • up to five protocol-specific route metrics
