Description: Manages Zhone Technologies PPP link configuration, authentication credentials, and LCP/NCP negotiation.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHONE-COM-PPP-MIB?

ZHONE-COM-PPP-MIB is a Zhone Technologies enterprise MIB, from the same IP Software lineage in Minneapolis, MN, for managing Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) links on Zhone access equipment, covering link configuration, authentication credentials, and LCP/NCP negotiation state. It exposes PPP link status alongside authentication settings such as PAP/CHAP and the negotiated Link/Network Control Protocol parameters for each PPP session. Its monitoring value is centered on software/link status: administrators poll LCP/NCP negotiation state to confirm a PPP link has come up cleanly, and check authentication status to catch a failed login that would prevent a subscriber or backhaul link from establishing. It implements the IETF PPP standard (RFC 1661 and related LCP/NCP RFCs) as its underlying protocol dependency. It is deployed on Zhone broadband/access equipment terminating PPP or PPPoE sessions from subscriber or backhaul connections, as modeled by the ZHONE-COM-PPP-MIB MIB.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHONE-COM-PPP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone broadband/access equipment (PPP/PPPoE termination)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the PPP link's LCP/NCP negotiation state to confirm a session has successfully reached the Network-layer-up phase, and check the authentication status object to see whether PAP/CHAP authentication succeeded or is repeatedly failing for a given subscriber line. Repeated authentication failures on the same link would point to a credential mismatch on the CPE side. Because no sample objects were captured for this MIB, exact object/table names cannot be confirmed beyond what the short description indicates.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PPP link/LCP/NCP negotiation state
  • PPP authentication status
  • PPP session configuration
