Description: Manages Zhone Technologies system configuration including device identity, software version, and reboot control.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ZHNSYSTEM?
This is a Zhone Technologies (a broadband access/DSL and fiber equipment vendor, later part of DASAN Zhone) private system MIB defining device-identity, configuration, and control objects for Zhone broadband access platforms. It exposes general system configuration data - model and MAC address information, WiFi network type, GPS-style location coordinates, system contact/location strings, system action (e.g., reboot) control, and timing/synchronization settings - spanning identity, physical location, and clocking categories. Its hardware/software status relevance includes device identity (modelNumber, macBaseAddress, numberOfMacAddresses) for inventory tracking, software-level control via zhnSystemAction for triggering reboots or resets, and timing/synchronization health via sysTransmitClockSource, sysLocalTimingReference, and sysSynchronizationMode, critical for access equipment relying on accurate network clocking. It appears to be a self-contained private enterprise MIB, though it likely follows SNMPv2-SMI conventions and may complement standard SNMPv2-MIB system group objects (sysContact/sysLocation naming suggests an intentional analog). It is typically deployed on Zhone broadband access devices (DSL/fiber access nodes, gateways) where operators need to track device identity, location, WiFi capability, and clock synchronization state as part of routine access-network management, and operators can download the ZHNSYSTEM MIB file to load it into their management platform.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHNSYSTEM. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Zhone Technologies broadband access node
- Zhone DSL/fiber gateway
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll modelNumber and macBaseAddress/numberOfMacAddresses to confirm device inventory identity, and check sysSynchronizationMode alongside sysTransmitClockSource and sysLocalTimingReference to verify the access device's timing reference is correctly locked for services requiring synchronization. Setting zhnSystemAction to a reboot value provides remote software-level control, while locationLatitude/locationLongitude and zhnSysLocation/zhnSysContact support physical-location inventory tracking. If sysSynchronizationMode shows the unit has fallen back to a holdover or free-run state rather than its configured reference, that flags a clock synchronization fault on the access node.
What Can Be Monitored
- model number and MAC address inventory
- WiFi network type
- device location coordinates
- timing/synchronization mode and reference source
- system reboot/action control
