What Is XYPLEX-ETHERNET-MIB?

XYPLEX-ETHERNET-MIB is a Xyplex enterprise MIB, Xyplex having made terminal servers and network hubs later part of iTouch/Global Village, for monitoring Ethernet interface health on Xyplex networking equipment. It exposes interface-level statistics including collision rates and MAC-layer error counters alongside basic interface status. Its primary use is monitoring hardware status of the Ethernet interface: administrators poll rising collision or MAC error counts to detect a failing NIC, bad cabling, or a duplex mismatch on the segment. It complements the standard IETF Ethernet-like Interfaces MIB (RFC 1643/2665) rather than replacing it, adding Xyplex-specific detail. It is deployed on Xyplex terminal servers and network devices where Ethernet-segment health needs close monitoring in legacy enterprise LANs, and administrators can still obtain an XYPLEX-ETHERNET-MIB download to load the module into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYPLEX-ETHERNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Ethernet collision rate
  • MAC-layer error counters
  • interface link status

Supported Devices

  • Xyplex terminal servers
  • Xyplex networking equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the Ethernet interface's collision-rate counter and MAC-level error counters over successive intervals to detect a sudden spike, typically pointing to a duplex mismatch or a failing cable/transceiver on that segment. Comparing collision rates across multiple Xyplex-attached segments would help isolate which physical link is degraded. Because no sample objects were captured for this MIB, exact object names cannot be confirmed beyond what the short description indicates.
