etherXTxExcessiveCollisions

Module: XYPLEX-ETHERNET-MIB

OID (symbolic): XYPLEX-ETHERNET-MIB::etherXTxExcessiveCollisions

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.33.11.4.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter

Access: read-only

Description: A count of frames for which transmission on a particular interface fails due to excessive collisions.

What is etherXTxExcessiveCollisions?

A read-only counter tracking frames that this Ethernet interface completely failed to transmit because they hit the maximum allowed number of collisions, meaning the frame was ultimately dropped rather than delayed. Unlike single/multiple collision counters which track frames that eventually succeeded, this counts outright transmission failures, a strong indicator of a severely congested or malfunctioning shared segment that's actually dropping traffic. A nonzero and growing etherXTxExcessiveCollisions count on a port means real data is being lost, not just delayed, and warrants immediate investigation of that segment's congestion or wiring.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.33.11.4.1.2
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> XYPLEX-ETHERNET-MIB::etherXTxExcessiveCollisions

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.33.11.4.1.2.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> XYPLEX-ETHERNET-MIB::etherXTxExcessiveCollisions.1
