What Is XYPLEX-CHARACTER1-MIB?
This Xyplex enterprise MIB supports the company's terminal server/communication server product line, providing extended "character mode" port-management objects for serial terminal interfaces. It models per-port configuration such as terminal type, flow control, and session parameters associated with each async serial port on the terminal server. Its monitoring value is largely in confirming per-port software configuration and session status — whether a given serial port is correctly configured for its attached terminal or modem and whether it is currently in active use — rather than performance counters. It is a proprietary extension alongside the base Xyplex system MIB, with no direct standards-based counterpart. It is deployed on legacy Xyplex terminal servers used for console/dial-in access aggregation in enterprise data centers and campus networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the XYPLEX-CHARACTER1-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were available in this MIB source. In general, an administrator would poll the per-port character-mode configuration to confirm terminal type and flow-control settings for a given serial line. Such a check would typically reveal a port misconfigured for the wrong terminal emulation or a flow-control mismatch causing garbled sessions.
