Category: Xylan OmniSwitch

Description: Defines Xylan OmniSwitch enterprise trap definitions for module 9 hardware event notifications.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is XYLANTRAP-9-MIB?

XYLANTRAP-9-MIB is a private Xylan (later Alcatel OmniSwitch) enterprise MIB defining a set of SNMP trap/notification definitions, module 9 in a series of Xylan trap MIBs, used to report hardware-related event notifications from OmniSwitch chassis switches. Rather than exposing polled data objects or tables, its entire content is notification definitions describing discrete hardware events as they occur. Its monitoring value is therefore event-driven hardware status reporting: it lets an NMS receive near-real-time alerts for chassis/module-level hardware events (such as module insertion/removal, power or fan condition changes, or other hardware faults typical of chassis-based switch trap MIBs), functioning as a fault/alarm feed rather than a polled status table. It is part of a numbered series of Xylan trap MIBs and depends on the base Xylan/OmniSwitch chassis and hardware MIBs that define the underlying objects referenced in trap varbinds. It is typically deployed on Xylan/Alcatel OmniSwitch chassis-based Ethernet switches in enterprise or carrier network cores, and administrators supporting this legacy hardware can find a XYLANTRAP-9-MIB download available to load into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYLANTRAP-9-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Xylan / Alcatel OmniSwitch chassis-based switch

Monitoring Examples

No specific object or trap names were provided in the source for this module beyond its identification as trap set 9, so exact trap names cannot be confirmed; in practice an NMS would subscribe to this module's notifications to receive alerts for chassis hardware events on an OmniSwitch, such as a module or power-supply state change, without needing to poll a status table.

What Can Be Monitored

  • hardware fault/event notifications (module, power, chassis-level)
