Category: Xylan OmniSwitch

Description: Manages Xylan OmniSwitch ATM LAN Service Module configuration, virtual LAN segments, and bridging.

What Is XYLAN-ATMLSM-MIB?

This is a vendor-specific enterprise MIB from Xylan Corporation (later acquired by Alcatel), part of the family of MIBs supporting the OmniSwitch line of ATM/LAN switching platforms. It models the ATM LAN Service Module (LSM), a line card providing ATM uplink and LAN emulation/bridging services within the switch chassis, covering configuration of virtual LAN segments and ATM bridging parameters. Because it is chiefly a module-configuration MIB rather than a counters MIB, its main use is confirming the module's operational and software configuration state — whether the LSM card is present, correctly provisioned, and its VLAN-to-ATM mappings are as expected, rather than tracking performance counters. It has an implicit dependency on the standard IF-MIB and on Xylan's own chassis/entity MIBs for module presence and interface indexing. It is deployed by network engineers managing legacy Xylan/Alcatel OmniSwitch ATM-to-LAN gateway installations in campus or carrier backbone environments, where they can download the XYLAN-ATMLSM-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYLAN-ATMLSM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Xylan OmniSwitch ATM LAN Service Module (LSM) line card
  • Alcatel OmniSwitch ATM switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were available in this MIB source, so specific table/scalar names cannot be confirmed here. In general, an administrator would poll the module's ATM bridging and VLAN configuration to confirm the LSM card is correctly mapping LAN segments onto ATM virtual circuits. Such a check would typically expose a misconfigured VLAN-to-ATM binding or a card that failed to register with the chassis.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM LSM module configuration
  • virtual LAN segment mappings
  • ATM bridging parameters
  • module operational status
