Category: Xylan OmniSwitch
Description: Defines Xylan OmniSwitch enterprise trap definitions for main chassis fault and event notifications.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is XYLANTRAP-M-MIB?
XYLANTRAP-M-MIB is a Xylan (later Alcatel OmniSwitch) enterprise MIB defining the SNMP trap notifications generated by the main chassis of an OmniSwitch, covering hardware faults and operational event notifications. It belongs to the enterprise chassis-switch fault-management category, and its content is almost entirely trap/notification definitions rather than polled tables. Its purpose is squarely hardware/software status monitoring: it is the mechanism by which the switch proactively reports chassis-level hardware faults, module or power state changes, and other significant events to a management station rather than requiring the NMS to poll for them. As a trap-definition module it depends on the vendor's main-chassis/hardware MIB for the object identifiers referenced as trap varbinds. It is typically deployed on legacy Xylan/Alcatel OmniSwitch chassis switches where an NMS is configured to receive and act on these traps, making XYLANTRAP-M-MIB SNMP monitoring the mechanism by which chassis hardware faults reach the management station proactively.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYLANTRAP-M-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Xylan/Alcatel OmniSwitch chassis switch
Monitoring Examples
No module description or sample objects were supplied for this MIB, so specific trap names cannot be confirmed; based on its role, an NMS would be configured to receive chassis fault traps from this module and alert on any trap indicating a hardware failure or unexpected state change on the main chassis, but the exact trap identifiers are not verifiable from the given information.
