What Is XYLAN-SRTB-MIB?
XYLAN-SRTB-MIB is a Xylan (OmniSwitch) enterprise MIB for managing Source-Route Transparent Bridging (SRTB) configuration, a bridging mode combining IBM Token Ring source-routing with transparent bridging. It exposes configuration objects for bridge mode selection and the resulting forwarding table entries used to move frames between ring and transparent-bridged segments. Its monitoring role is largely configuration/software-state focused: administrators poll it to confirm SRTB mode is correctly enabled on the intended ports and to inspect the forwarding table for stale or unexpected entries that could indicate a bridging loop or misconfigured segment. It is a Xylan-specific extension built on top of the switch's base bridging MIBs and, implicitly, IEEE 802.1D/Token Ring bridging concepts rather than a formal IETF SRTB standard. It is deployed in legacy OmniSwitch environments that still bridge Token Ring segments alongside Ethernet using source-route transparent bridging. Engineers can download the XYLAN-SRTB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYLAN-SRTB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Xylan/Alcatel OmniSwitch chassis (Token Ring/Ethernet bridging deployments)
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check the SRTB configuration objects to confirm which ports have source-route transparent bridging enabled versus pure transparent bridging, then inspect the forwarding table entries to verify frames are being correctly bridged between ring and Ethernet segments. An unexpectedly large or rapidly growing forwarding table could indicate a bridging loop or a misbehaving end-station flooding the network. Because no sample objects were captured for this MIB, exact table and object names cannot be confirmed beyond what the short description indicates.
What Can Be Monitored
- SRTB bridging mode configuration
- forwarding table entries
- bridge port assignment
