Category: X.25 and Legacy WAN

Description: Supplies optional configuration and operational objects for interfaces on X.25 packet-switched networks.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is X25-OPT-MIB?

X25-OPT-MIB is a supplementary MIB module defining optional configuration and operational objects for X.25 packet-switched network interfaces, extending the base IETF X.25 Packet Level/LAPB MIB framework (RFC 1382). It exposes port-level protocol-group configuration data, as suggested by its sample objects, grouping physical ports under a specific X.25 protocol configuration on the host platform. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration-status rather than hardware health: confirming that ports are grouped under the correct protocol configuration is necessary for X.25 call setup and packet-level operation to work as intended. The object names present (prefixed cdx6500) indicate this particular instance targets a specific router/FRAD platform's X.25 port hardware while still following the general X.25 MIB conventions. It is typically deployed on legacy X.25 packet-switched network access devices or routers providing X.25 connectivity over serial links. Engineers can download the X25-OPT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in X25-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • X.25 packet-switched network access devices/routers (e.g., cdx6500 platform)
  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB extension, not tied to a single manufacturer

Monitoring Examples

cdx6500PCTPortProtocolGroup and cdx6500PSTPortProtocolGroup group specific physical ports (PCT and PST) under an X.25 protocol configuration on the platform. An administrator would poll these objects to confirm that a given port is assigned to the intended protocol group. A port found in the wrong or an unconfigured protocol group would reveal a misconfiguration that would prevent X.25 call setup from succeeding on that port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • X.25 port protocol-group assignment
