What Is X25W-MIB?

X25W-MIB is a networking MIB for monitoring X.25 WAN interfaces, associated with legacy WAN/access-router products (object naming suggests a US Robotics/NAS-style vendor context). It defines administrative and operational tables describing X.25 WAN link type, speed, clocking source, maximum frame size, and link availability. Its use is in monitoring connection-level status and configuration consistency of X.25 packet-switched WAN links, letting an administrator confirm the administratively configured parameters match the operational state of the interface. It complements the standard IF-MIB, since X.25 WAN interfaces are typically also represented as generic interfaces with their own ifTable entries alongside this X.25-specific detail. It is deployed on WAN access routers or network access servers (NAS) providing X.25 packet-switched connectivity, common in legacy telecom, banking, or government networks. Engineers can download the X25W-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in X25W-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • X.25 WAN access router / network access server (NAS)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would compare x25wanAdmnTable entries such as x25wanAdmnType, x25wanAdmnSpeed, and x25wanAdmnMaxFrmSize against the corresponding x25wanOperTable/x25wanOperEntry operational values (x25wanOperType) to detect a mismatch indicating misconfiguration. Checking x25wanAdmnLinkAvailable and x25wanAdmnClockSouce would reveal whether the link is currently available and which side is providing clock timing, helping diagnose a down or unsynchronized X.25 link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • X.25 link type and speed
  • link availability
  • clock source configuration
  • maximum frame size
  • administrative vs operational link state

RFC description

A SNMP MIB extension for the X.25 Packet Layer protocol as defined in RFC 1382. This MIB defines objects for managing X.25 protocol stack operations, packet layer functions, and X.25 circuit management in network devices.
