Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks LAN and Bridging

Description: Monitors Wellfleet Spanning Tree Algorithm port states, designated bridges, and convergence statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-STA-MIB?

Wellfleet-STA-MIB is a Wellfleet Communications (later Bay Networks) vendor-specific MIB that implements a generic Statistical Threshold and Alarm (STA) framework for any polled MIB object on Wellfleet routers, rather than modeling a specific protocol. It lets an operator attach a threshold definition to an arbitrary object identifier via wfStaThresholdTable (indexed by wfStaThresholdObject), configuring low/medium/high marks (wfStaThresholdLowValue/MediumValue/HighValue), evaluation direction (wfStaThresholdAction: greaterthan/lessthan), units (absolute vs. per-second), and per-severity event levels, while wfStaPollInterval controls how often thresholds are evaluated. Each entry tracks live state in wfStaThresholdState (valid, held, ignored, suspended, invalid), current computed value (wfStaThresholdCurrentValue), and cumulative exception/alarm counters per severity level. This makes it useful as a generic early-warning mechanism for attaching a threshold to an interface error counter or CPU utilization object without needing a dedicated vendor MIB for that condition. It depends on Wellfleet-COMMON-MIB for the wfStaGroup subtree, and administrators can download the Wellfleet-STA-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-STA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator creates a wfStaThresholdTable entry pointing wfStaThresholdObject at a WAN interface's error counter with wfStaThresholdHighValue set to a per-second error rate; repeated wfStaThresholdHighAlarms increments or a wfStaThresholdState of held would indicate the interface is experiencing a sustained error condition needing investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • threshold object state (valid/held/ignored/suspended)
  • low/medium/high threshold marks and current value
  • per-severity exception and alarm counters
  • polling interval and threshold enable/disable
