What Is Wellfleet-TNC-MIB?
The Wellfleet-TNC-MIB is a Wellfleet Communications proprietary MIB for the Token-Ring Network Controller module used in Wellfleet routers to interface with Token Ring LAN segments. It exposes hardware and ring-status configuration objects along with MAC-layer statistics counters tracking frame and error activity on the controller's ring connection. Its main monitoring purpose is hardware status: it confirms whether the TNC hardware module itself is operating correctly and whether the ring it serves is inserted, healthy, or experiencing MAC-layer errors such as line errors or lost frames that point to a failing adapter or cable. It builds on concepts from the standard Token Ring MIB (RFC 1231) while adding Wellfleet's own module-specific hardware objects. It was deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks chassis routers with Token Ring line cards in legacy enterprise networks. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-TNC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-TNC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Wellfleet router with Token Ring controller module
- Bay Networks/Nortel chassis router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls the TNC module's ring status object to confirm the controller has successfully inserted into the ring, then reviews MAC statistics for line errors, lost frames, and burst errors. A controller that shows 'not inserted' or a rapidly climbing line-error count points to a faulty ring adapter or a physical cabling problem on that segment.
What Can Be Monitored
- ring insertion status
- MAC-layer line/frame error counters
- controller hardware status
- ring segment statistics
