Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks LAN and Bridging

Description: Monitors Wellfleet Token Ring interface parameters, ring speed, beaconing status, and MAC error counters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-TOKEN-RING-MIB?

Wellfleet-TOKEN-RING-MIB is a Wellfleet router MIB for monitoring Token Ring network interfaces, covering ring speed configuration, beaconing status, and IEEE 802.5 MAC-layer error counters. It exposes both configuration objects (ring speed setting) and operational/fault objects (beaconing condition, MAC error counts) for each Token Ring interface. This is directly hardware/interface health monitoring: beaconing indicates a serious ring fault such as a broken cable or failed station, while MAC error counters reveal a degrading ring before it fails outright. It functions as a vendor extension to the standard IEEE 802.5 Token Ring MIB (RFC 1748), adding Wellfleet-specific detail on top of that standard. It is deployed on Wellfleet routers with Token Ring interface modules in legacy IBM-oriented LAN environments. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-TOKEN-RING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-TOKEN-RING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks router (Token Ring interface module)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module; typically an operator would poll the beaconing-status object per interface to catch an active ring fault and monitor MAC error counters (e.g., soft error/line error counts) to spot a ring station or cable segment degrading before a full ring failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ring speed configuration
  • beaconing status
  • MAC-layer error counters
