Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks LAN and Bridging
Description: Monitors Wellfleet source routing bridge parameters, route descriptors, and RIF table statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Wellfleet-SR-MIB?
Wellfleet-SR-MIB is a legacy vendor MIB from Wellfleet Communications (a bridge/router vendor later merged into Bay Networks/Nortel) for monitoring source-routing bridge behavior on Wellfleet routers/bridges. It exposes source-routing-specific data such as route descriptors and Routing Information Field (RIF) table statistics used in Token Ring source-route bridging environments. Its monitoring value is primarily around the software/protocol status of the bridging function: RIF table entries and route descriptor counts let an operator confirm source-route paths are being learned and used correctly, and spot anomalies like an exploding or stale RIF table indicating a bridging loop or misconfiguration. As a source-routing bridge MIB, it relates conceptually to the IEEE 802.5 Token Ring source-routing bridging standard rather than a specific IETF MIB, though no explicit dependency is shown in the available data. It was typically deployed in legacy Token Ring enterprise networks of the 1990s where Wellfleet routers/bridges performed source-route bridging between Token Ring segments. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-SR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-SR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Wellfleet (Bay Networks) Token Ring source-routing bridge/router
Monitoring Examples
No object or table names were provided in this batch for this MIB, so an OID-grounded scenario cannot be constructed. Based on the short description, an admin would have polled RIF table entries and route descriptor counters to confirm source-routed paths were stable and to detect a growing/looping RIF table indicative of a bridging problem. Specific table and object names are not available to cite here.
What Can Be Monitored
- route descriptor counts
- RIF table statistics
