What Is Wellfleet-Modem-MIB?
Wellfleet-Modem-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Wellfleet Communications (later Bay Networks/Nortel) written to manage the internal V.34 modem daughter card used on the NEPTUNE platform. Its single wfModemTable, indexed by wfModemSlot and wfModemConnector, models per-line modem state through objects like wfModemLineState, wfModemConnectionFailReason, wfModemCfgState, and wfModemInitState, alongside configuration objects such as wfModemCfgInitString, wfModemPhoneNumber, and wfModemType that let Site Manager push AT command strings to the modem. It also exposes V.54 loopback test controls (wfModemV54Lpbk, wfModemV54Timer, wfModemV54Errors) for diagnosing line quality and remote loopback behavior. The MIB imports Counter from RFC1155-SMI, OBJECT-TYPE from RFC-1212, DisplayString from RFC1213-MIB, and wfModemGroup from Wellfleet-COMMON-MIB, tying it into Wellfleet's broader router MIB tree. Administrators managing legacy Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers with dial-backup modem cards can download the Wellfleet-Modem-MIB download file to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
An operator polls wfModemLineState and wfModemConnectionFailReason on a given wfModemSlot/wfModemConnector pair to check whether a dial-backup modem is connected, and a line stuck in busiedOut or repeatedly reporting lossOfCarrier or noResponseFromRemote in wfModemConnectionFailReason would indicate a failing modem or bad phone line.
