What Is Wellfleet-OC3-MIB?
Wellfleet-OC3-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB originally developed by Wellfleet Communications (later part of Bay Networks/Nortel) for managing OC-3 SONET/SDH interfaces on their routers. It exposes physical-layer interface status data, including SONET framing/alarm indications and optical signal quality parameters, along with performance error counters for the OC-3 line. Network administrators use it to monitor hardware status of the OC-3 interface card, detecting loss of signal, section/line/path alarms, and degraded optical conditions that indicate a failing transceiver or fiber link. It commonly depends on the standard IETF SONET-MIB and Interfaces MIB (IF-MIB) for interface indexing and generic counter conventions. It is typically deployed in legacy WAN edge routers carrying OC-3 SONET circuits in telecom and enterprise backbone environments, and the Wellfleet-OC3-MIB MIB remains the reference for the object identifiers used on that legacy hardware.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-OC3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Wellfleet/Bay Networks/Nortel routers
- OC-3 SONET WAN interface cards
Monitoring Examples
No specific object or table names were provided for this module, so a precise polling example cannot be constructed with grounded identifiers. In general, administrators would poll SONET section/line/path alarm status objects and optical receive-level performance counters exposed by this MIB to detect degraded OC-3 signal quality or an interface-down condition. A sudden rise in path error counters combined with an alarm indication would typically point to a failing optical transceiver or damaged fiber segment.
What Can Be Monitored
- OC-3 interface status
- SONET framing/alarm conditions
- optical signal quality
- performance error counters
