Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks LAN and Bridging
Description: Monitors Wellfleet LAN Network Manager parameters and Token Ring segment management statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Wellfleet-LNM-MIB?
The Wellfleet-LNM-MIB is a Wellfleet Communications proprietary MIB supporting LAN Network Manager (LNM) integration for Token Ring segments attached to Wellfleet routers, a legacy IBM-style Token Ring management technology area. It exposes objects describing Token Ring segment configuration and management state, along with statistics used by LNM-style ring management stations to track ring health. Its monitoring emphasis is on hardware/link status: it allows detection of ring insertion failures, beaconing conditions, and other Token Ring MAC-layer faults that indicate a failing adapter or cabling fault somewhere on the ring. It complements the standard Token Ring MIB (RFC 1231) and IBM's LNM protocol conventions rather than replacing them. It was deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers that bridged or routed Token Ring segments in legacy IBM mainframe-connected enterprise networks, with Wellfleet-LNM-MIB SNMP monitoring giving ring managers early warning of beaconing and insertion failures.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-LNM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Wellfleet router
- Bay Networks/Nortel router with Token Ring interfaces
Monitoring Examples
A network manager polls the Token Ring segment management objects to confirm the ring is in a normal operational state, then checks the associated statistics for beaconing or ring-insertion failure events. A station reporting repeated beacon conditions on a specific segment points to a failing NIC or a broken cable segment that is disrupting the whole ring, since Token Ring beaconing isolates the fault location by design.
What Can Be Monitored
- Token Ring segment operational state
- ring beaconing/fault events
- ring insertion status
- LNM management statistics
