Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks Routing Protocols

Description: Covers ARP table entries on Wellfleet routers, including request rates and address resolution configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-ARP-MIB?

This Wellfleet proprietary MIB, from an early router vendor later absorbed into Bay Networks/Nortel, manages the device's ARP subsystem, exposing the router's ARP cache table (IP-to-MAC mappings), ARP request rate statistics, and address-resolution configuration parameters. It is a mix of configuration data (ARP timeout/aging, static entry configuration) and light performance data (request rates), rather than hardware/environmental telemetry. Monitoring this MIB is useful for detecting Layer-3-to-Layer-2 resolution problems on the router: an unusually high ARP request rate can indicate an ARP storm or a misconfigured host flooding the network, while missing or stale ARP entries can explain a reachability fault, both software/network-state health indicators. It parallels and predates the IETF standard IP-MIB ipNetToMediaTable model for ARP cache representation. It is deployed on legacy Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers in enterprise or service-provider IP networks. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-ARP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-ARP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks router (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module in the source data. In general, an ARP MIB of this kind exposes a cache table of IP-to-MAC entries along with a request-rate counter, which an operator would poll to spot a spike in ARP request rate consistent with an ARP storm, or a missing cache entry explaining an unreachable downstream host.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ARP cache entries (IP-to-MAC mappings)
  • ARP request rate
  • ARP entry aging/timeout configuration
  • static ARP entry configuration
