Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks Routing Protocols

Description: Monitors Wellfleet DVMRP multicast routing table, neighbor relationships, and pruning state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-DVMRP-MIB?

Wellfleet-DVMRP-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications/Bay Networks that monitors the Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol (DVMRP) implementation on its routers. It exposes the multicast routing table, DVMRP neighbor adjacency information, and pruning state used to control multicast traffic distribution. It is a routing-protocol/software-status MIB: administrators use it to confirm DVMRP neighbor relationships remain up and to check whether multicast trees are being pruned/grafted correctly, since a stuck or missing prune state can cause unwanted multicast flooding or, conversely, dropped multicast traffic. It parallels the concepts later standardized in the IETF DVMRP-MIB, though implemented under Wellfleet's own OID structure. It was typically deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers in networks running early IP multicast applications such as video distribution or MBone-style traffic. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-DVMRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-DVMRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks router (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided, so this is inferred: an administrator would poll the DVMRP neighbor table and multicast routing table to confirm expected neighbor adjacencies are up and that pruning state matches expected traffic patterns. A neighbor relationship that unexpectedly drops, or a multicast group stuck in an unpruned state long after receivers have left, would indicate a DVMRP protocol problem worth investigating.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DVMRP neighbor adjacency state
  • multicast routing table entries
  • prune/graft state
  • DVMRP protocol status
