Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks Routing Protocols
Description: Monitors Wellfleet DECnet protocol routing parameters, adjacencies, and traffic counters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Wellfleet-DECNET-MIB?
This is a vendor-specific proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications (later Bay Networks/Nortel) monitoring the DECnet protocol stack, a Digital Equipment Corporation networking protocol once common in VAX/VMS environments. It exposes DECnet routing parameters, adjacency (neighbor) state, and traffic counters. It supports software status monitoring by revealing whether DECnet adjacencies are up and routes are being learned correctly, which is critical in legacy DECnet networks where a lost adjacency directly breaks reachability to VMS hosts. There is no equivalent IETF standard MIB for DECnet, so this module has no cross-standard dependency and is purely a Wellfleet-proprietary implementation. It is typically deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers acting as DECnet routers in legacy Digital Equipment Corporation network environments. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-DECNET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-DECNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers (DECnet routing)
Monitoring Examples
No sample_objects were provided for this module; based on the short_desc, an operator would poll the DECnet adjacency table for neighbor up/down state and the routing table for learned route counts. A DECnet adjacency that drops from the 'up' state would indicate a link or protocol-level failure isolating that segment from the rest of the DECnet area.
What Can Be Monitored
- DECnet adjacency state
- DECnet routing table entry count
- DECnet traffic packet counters
