Description: Manages Ciena LEOS SNMP inform notification delivery status, retry counts, and acknowledgment tracking.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is WWP-LEOS-INFORM-STATUS-MIB?
WWP-LEOS-INFORM-STATUS-MIB is a Ciena LEOS (formerly World Wide Packets) proprietary MIB that tracks the delivery status of SNMP inform notifications sent by the device, including retry counts and acknowledgment tracking, with a table added for INET-style addressing of inform targets. It exposes status/operational data about the notification subsystem itself: whether informs to a given target have been acknowledged, how many retries have occurred, and target addressing details. Its monitoring value is meta-level — it lets an operator verify that the device's own alerting mechanism is functioning, so that hardware or software faults reported elsewhere are actually reaching the management station; a stuck or repeatedly-retrying inform indicates a management-connectivity problem. It builds on the standard SNMPv2/v3 Inform-Request mechanism (RFC 3413) and its INET addressing extension mirrors SNMP-TARGET-MIB/transport address conventions. It is deployed on Ciena LEOS Metro Ethernet devices configured to send SNMP informs (rather than unacknowledged traps) to NMS platforms. Engineers can download the WWP-LEOS-INFORM-STATUS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WWP-LEOS-INFORM-STATUS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ciena LEOS / World Wide Packets Metro Ethernet device
Monitoring Examples
No sample object names beyond the mentioned wwpLeosInetTargetInformStatusTable were supplied; an admin would poll this table, keyed by inform target address, to check acknowledgment status and retry count for each notification destination. A target showing a persistently high retry count with no acknowledgment would reveal that the management station is unreachable or misconfigured, meaning fault notifications are being silently lost.
What Can Be Monitored
- inform notification acknowledgment status
- inform retry count
- inform target address (INET)
- notification delivery target table

RFC description
SNMP MIB module for Ciena (formerly Ciena/WorldWide Packets) LEOS (Lighthouse Ethernet Operating System) devices that manages inform status notifications and system events. Used for monitoring and managing alarm notifications, SNMP inform messages, and device status reporting on LEOS-based networking equipment.
Start monitoring Ciena LEOS / World Wide Packets Metro Ethernet device (SNMP-inform delivery/retry status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
