Description: Manages Ciena LEOS Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol port configuration, bridge priority, and convergence state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WWP-LEOS-RSTP-MIB?

WWP-LEOS-RSTP-MIB is a Ciena (originally World Wide Packets, "wwp") enterprise MIB for the LEOS operating system's implementation of Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), managing bridge/port spanning-tree parameters and convergence state on Ciena Ethernet switching platforms. It exposes domain-level spanning-tree attributes such as bridge priority and the BPDU transmission hold count, alongside (per its broader context) per-port role and state information used to track topology convergence. Its monitoring value is centered on software/protocol status: verifying spanning-tree bridge priority is configured as intended for root-bridge election, and that the hold-count/timer parameters governing BPDU transmission rate are within expected bounds to avoid slow convergence or excessive control-plane traffic. It is built on and dependent on the IEEE 802.1w RSTP standard, extending the standard Bridge MIB (IEEE 802.1D-derived, RFC 4188) concepts with Ciena/WWP-specific "domain" objects. It is typically deployed on Ciena LEOS-based Ethernet switches in metro Ethernet and carrier access networks where fast Layer 2 loop convergence is required, making WWP-LEOS-RSTP-MIB SNMP monitoring valuable for verifying root-bridge and BPDU timer configuration.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WWP-LEOS-RSTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ciena LEOS-based Ethernet switch (formerly World Wide Packets)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls wwpLeosRstpDomainAttrsPriority to confirm the intended root-bridge priority is set on a given spanning-tree domain, and checks wwpLeosRstpDomainAttrsTxHoldCount to verify BPDU transmission pacing is configured correctly to avoid flooding the network with control traffic during topology changes. If an unplanned root-bridge election occurs after a link flap, comparing the configured wwpLeosRstpDomainAttrsPriority across switches in the domain helps the admin identify which device unexpectedly became root and why convergence took longer than expected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • spanning-tree domain bridge priority
  • BPDU transmission hold count
  • root-bridge election outcome
  • spanning-tree convergence/topology state
