Category: Symbol Technologies Wireless

Description: Manages Symbol Technologies wireless switch SNMP configuration persistence and running-to-startup save operations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WS-SW-SNMP-SAVE-MIB?

WS-SW-SNMP-SAVE-MIB is a Symbol Technologies (wireless switch) private MIB that manages the running-to-startup configuration save operation and reports startup config-replay results on a Symbol wireless switch. The writable wsSwSnmpSaveSet object (idle/save) triggers a save-configuration action when set to save, while wsSwSnmpSaveSavedCfgChangeCounter is a read-only counter of how many times a config save has been performed via CLI, SNMP, or the web applet, giving a simple change-tracking signal without a full audit trail. wsSwSnmpSaveUserRole is a BITS value indicating the privilege level (monitor, helpDesk, networkAdmin, systemAdmin, webUserAdmin, superUser) of the currently logged-on user attempting the operation. Most usefully for fault diagnosis, wsSwSnmpSaveStartupConfigStatus reports whether the startup-config replay at boot succeeded or failed, and when it fails, wsSwSnmpSaveStartupConfigErroneousCmdLine returns the specific configuration line that could not be applied. It depends on WS-SW-SMI for its registration point under the Symbol enterprise tree. It is deployed on Symbol Technologies (later Motorola/Zebra) wireless switch controllers, and administrators can download the WS-SW-SNMP-SAVE-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser when auditing configuration-persistence issues after a reboot.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-SW-SNMP-SAVE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Symbol Technologies (later Motorola/Zebra) wireless switch controllers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls wsSwSnmpSaveStartupConfigStatus after a switch reboot to confirm the startup configuration applied cleanly; a status of failure paired with a populated wsSwSnmpSaveStartupConfigErroneousCmdLine would pinpoint the exact configuration line that failed to load and likely needs correction before the next reboot.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configuration save trigger/action state
  • count of running-to-startup config saves performed
  • current user's privilege role
  • startup configuration replay success/failure status
  • specific erroneous startup-config command line
