What Is WS-SW-SMI?

WS-SW-SMI is a Structure of Management Information (SMI) module from Symbol Technologies (a wireless LAN/barcode-scanning technology vendor later acquired by Motorola) defining the enterprise OID sub-tree used by Symbol's wireless switch product line. It contains no runtime data objects of its own—the module_desc is a placeholder and sample_objects is empty—so it is purely a naming/registration module rather than a source of monitorable status. Consequently it does not expose uptime, temperature, CPU load, or any other hardware/software health metrics directly; those are defined in the actual wireless switch MIB modules that register beneath this SMI branch. It depends implicitly on the base SNMPv2-SMI enterprises tree for its OID assignment, and any WS-SW-SMI OID encountered in a MIB browser ultimately resolves back to this registration branch. It would appear in deployments only as infrastructure underpinning other Symbol Technologies wireless switch MIBs, not as a standalone monitoring target.
