Description: Monitors Symbol Technologies wireless switch interface statistics, operational state, and port configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WS-SW-IF-MIB?

WS-SW-IF-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Symbol Technologies (WS standing for Wireless Switch) that models the interface layer of Symbol's wireless switch product line, covering physical and logical interface types including Ethernet, loopback, VLAN, GRE tunnel, and multi-link trunk (MLT) ports. Its central wsIfTable, indexed by wsIfHWType and wsIfNumber, exposes configuration objects such as wsIfMTU, wsIfSpeed/wsIfAdminSpeed, wsIfDuplex/wsIfAdminDuplex, and wsIfDHCPEnable alongside 64-bit traffic counters (wsIfInOctets, wsIfInPkts, wsIfOutOctets, wsIfOutPkts, wsIfTotalMBytes) and derived operational metrics like wsIfSpeedUtilization, wsIfThroughput, and wsIfUpDownTimes. This combination of per-interface configuration and high-capacity traffic counters lets an operator track bandwidth utilization and link-flap history on a wireless switch's uplinks, VLANs, and tunnels well beyond what basic IF-MIB counters provide. It depends on the vendor's WS-SW-SMI MIB for its base OID (wsSwIf) and is deployed on Symbol Technologies wireless switch controllers managing thin/fat access-point infrastructure. Administrators managing Symbol wireless LAN controllers can download the WS-SW-IF-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-SW-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Symbol Technologies wireless switch controllers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls wsIfSpeedUtilization and wsIfUpDownTimes for a wsIfHWType/wsIfNumber pair representing a wireless switch's Ethernet uplink; a high utilization value combined with a rapidly incrementing wsIfUpDownTimes counter indicates the uplink is both saturated and flapping, a likely cause of wireless client disconnects.

What Can Be Monitored

  • 64-bit interface traffic counters (octets/packets in and out)
  • interface speed utilization percentage
  • interface throughput
  • link up/down transition counts
  • interface MTU, speed, and duplex configuration
