Category: Aruba Wireless Networking

Description: Monitors Aruba wireless controller Power over Ethernet port status, power consumption, and budget management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WLSX-POE-MIB?

WLSX-POE-MIB is an Aruba Networks (WLSX being Aruba's legacy enterprise OID branch) MIB module covering Power over Ethernet on Aruba wireless LAN controllers and switches, modeling both the Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and the Powered Device (PD) per IEEE 802.3af terminology. It exposes per-port PoE data such as power delivery status, power consumption/draw, and power budget allocation and availability across the chassis. This is a hardware-health monitoring MIB in the power domain: it is used to detect PoE ports drawing excessive power, ports that have failed to power up a connected PD, or a chassis-wide power budget nearing exhaustion, all of which can cause connected access points or IP phones to lose power unexpectedly. It implements the IEEE 802.3af (and by extension 802.3at) PoE standard's PSE/PD model as its conceptual foundation, layered with Aruba-specific objects. It is deployed on Aruba wireless controllers and PoE-capable switches powering access points and other PDs in enterprise WLAN deployments. Engineers can download the WLSX-POE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WLSX-POE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aruba wireless LAN controllers and PoE switches

Monitoring Examples

No concrete object or table names were supplied for this MIB, only the PSE/PD description drawn from IEEE 802.3af terminology, so specific OIDs can't be cited without inventing them. In practice, an administrator would poll per-port PoE power-draw and power-budget objects to confirm an access point is receiving adequate power, and a port reporting an over-budget or fault condition would explain an AP that keeps rebooting or failing to power up.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port PoE power delivery status
  • power consumption/draw
  • power budget allocation
  • PSE/PD status
