What Is WLSX-SWITCH-MIB?

WLSX-SWITCH-MIB is Aruba Networks' core system-level MIB for its wireless LAN controllers/switches, covering general controller configuration, hardware environmental status, authentication server settings, and wireless security event traps. It exposes authentication server configuration, hardware health sensors (fan, line card presence, voltage, temperature), process-level status, and wireless security data such as station MAC tracking, blacklisting, and spoofed-address detection. This is a strong hardware/software health MIB: it directly covers fan status, voltage levels, temperature readings, and running process names, making it central to monitoring the physical and software health of an Aruba controller chassis. No specific external MIB dependency is apparent from the module description beyond standard SNMP trap conventions used by wlsxSwitchTrapObjectsGroup. It is deployed on Aruba wireless LAN controllers/switches in enterprise campus Wi-Fi networks requiring both hardware health monitoring and wireless intrusion/security event tracking. Engineers can download the WLSX-SWITCH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WLSX-SWITCH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fan status
  • temperature readings
  • voltage levels
  • line card presence
  • process status
  • wireless client blacklist/spoofing security events

Supported Devices

  • Aruba wireless LAN controller/switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll wlsxFanNumber and wlsxTemperatureValue alongside wlsxVoltageType/wlsxVoltageValue to catch a failing fan, overheating chassis, or out-of-range power supply voltage before it causes an outage, and check wlsxLineCardNumber and wlsxProcessName to confirm expected hardware modules and software processes are present and running. A trap carrying wlsxStationMacAddress and wlsxStationBlackListReason, or wlsxSpoofedIpAddress and wlsxSpoofedOldPhyAddress, would alert security staff to a blacklisted client or a detected address-spoofing attack on the wireless network.

RFC description

Management Information Base for Aruba wireless switches and access points. Provides objects for system-level information, user tracking, access point status, and trap definitions for WLAN devices.

Start monitoring Aruba wireless LAN controller/switch (fan/voltage/temperature and wireless-security-event status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
