Organization: Nokia

Last Updated: 2015-12-15

Category: Nokia Optical Transport

Description: Covers configuration, wavelength assignment, and performance data for optical channels (OCh) on Nokia Tropic equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TROPIC-OCH-MIB?

TROPIC-OCH-MIB is part of Nokia's Tropic DWDM optical transport MIB suite, modeling the Optical Channel (OCh) layer that carries an individual wavelength through a DWDM network. It defines configuration objects for wavelength assignment along with performance data associated with each optical channel. Its monitoring role is centered on hardware/optical status: tracking wavelength assignments and channel-level performance to detect degraded optical power, drift, or a channel that has failed to come into service. It belongs to the same Tropic MIB family as TROPIC-AMPLIFIER-MIB and TROPIC-OTH-MIB, sharing common structural conventions for the optical layer stack. It is deployed on Nokia DWDM network elements in service-provider optical backbone networks. Engineers can download the TROPIC-OCH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TROPIC-OCH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia (Alcatel-Lucent) Tropic DWDM optical transport network element

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided for this module. Based on its description, an admin would typically poll wavelength-assignment and OCh performance objects to confirm a given optical channel is provisioned to the expected wavelength and operating at acceptable power/quality levels, with a deviation indicating a degrading transponder or fiber issue affecting that channel.

What Can Be Monitored

  • optical channel wavelength assignment
  • optical channel performance data
  • optical channel operational status
