Description: Manages Transition Networks media converter port configuration, speed, duplex, and statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TN-PORT-MIB?
TN-PORT-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary module for configuring and monitoring physical Ethernet port parameters on their media converters and switches. It exposes per-port configuration and operational state including configured versus current speed, flow control settings (current, Rx, Tx), excessive collision handling mode, and port power control. Its core monitoring use is hardware/interface health: administrators can compare configured versus actual negotiated speed to detect autonegotiation mismatches, monitor flow control activity to spot congestion, and check port power state to confirm a port or attached PHY is powered and operational. It works alongside the standard IF-MIB for generic interface counters and identifiers, adding vendor-specific physical-layer detail. It is deployed on media converter and switch hardware in industrial, telecom, or enterprise environments where physical-layer link quality and power state need close tracking. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the TN-PORT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-PORT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Transition Networks media converter
- Transition Networks managed Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll tnPortConfigTable to compare tnPortSpeedConfigured against tnPortSpeedCurrent to detect a port that failed to negotiate its intended speed, and check tnPortFlowControlCurrentRx/Tx to see if a port is actively pausing traffic due to congestion. Monitoring tnPortPowerControl reveals whether a port has been administratively powered down, while a rising tnPortExcessiveCollisionMode counter or triggered mode would flag a duplex mismatch or cabling fault on a half-duplex link.
What Can Be Monitored
- configured vs. current port speed
- flow control status (Rx/Tx)
- excessive collision mode
- port power control state
