tnPortExcessiveCollisionMode

Module: TN-PORT-MIB

OID (symbolic): TN-PORT-MIB::tnPortExcessiveCollisionMode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.868.2.5.141.1.1.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Configure port transmit collision behavior. Discard: Discard frame after 16 collisions (default). Restart: Restart backoff algorithm after 16 collisions.

What is tnPortExcessiveCollisionMode?

This read-write INTEGER, discard(1) or restart(2) and defaulting to discard, configures how the port's transmit logic behaves after hitting 16 collisions on a half-duplex link: either discard the frame or restart the backoff algorithm and keep trying. An admin changes this from the default discard(1) to restart(2) on a legacy half-duplex segment where dropping frames after repeated collisions is less acceptable than retrying. Setting tnPortExcessiveCollisionMode to restart(2) on a noisy half-duplex hub connection keeps the port retrying frames instead of giving up after 16 collisions.

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> TN-PORT-MIB::tnPortExcessiveCollisionMode.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.868.2.5.141.1.1.1.6.1 i <value>
