Category: Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks port mirroring session source ports and destination configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-MIRRORING-MIB?

This Transition Networks MIB manages simple port-mirroring (SPAN-style) functionality on TN managed Ethernet switches, distinct from Nokia's carrier-grade mirroring MIB above. It exposes mirroring group definitions that pair source ports with a destination port for traffic replication. It supports monitoring of the switch's software configuration state for diagnostics, letting an admin confirm which ports are currently configured as mirror sources versus the destination and in what mode, useful when validating that a packet-capture or IDS tap is receiving the intended traffic. It is a vendor-specific module with no apparent dependency beyond the base TN switch object hierarchy. It is typically deployed on Transition Networks managed switches for network troubleshooting and passive traffic monitoring/tap setups. Engineers can download the TN-MIRRORING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-MIRRORING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks (now part of Lantronix) managed Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would inspect the tnMirroringGroupTable (tnMirroringGroupEntry) for a tnMirroringGroupID to see the configured tnMirroringGroupDestIfIndex, then check the tnMirroringIfTable (tnMirroringIfEntry) to confirm which interfaces have tnMirroringIfMode set for that group. If a monitoring tool isn't capturing expected traffic, verifying the tnMirroringIfGroupID assignment against the intended source ports is the first check. This is purely a configuration/status module rather than a traffic-statistics one.

What Can Be Monitored

  • mirroring group source/destination interfaces
  • per-interface mirroring mode
  • mirroring group membership
