Category: Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks LLDP neighbor discovery, advertisement, and port configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-LLDP-MIB?

TN-LLDP-MIB is a Transition Networks-proprietary private implementation of the Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) MIB, used for neighbor discovery and advertisement on Transition Networks' media conversion and Ethernet switching products. It exposes global LLDP timer configuration (re-initialization delay, transmit hold, transmit interval, transmit delay) as well as per-port LLDP administrative state, CDP-awareness, optional TLV settings, and LLDP-MED (media endpoint discovery) parameters. Its monitoring value is largely topological and configuration-state verification: confirming which ports have LLDP enabled and correctly advertising, and detecting devices that have lost neighbor visibility, useful for diagnosing unexpected cabling changes or a neighbor device going offline. It is modeled closely on the IETF standard LLDP-MIB (and IEEE 802.1AB), reusing its conceptual framework while adding Transition Networks-specific CDP-awareness and vendor configuration objects. It is deployed on Transition Networks media converters and switches in enterprise or industrial networks where automated neighbor/topology discovery aids network mapping and troubleshooting, and a TN-LLDP-MIB download is a common starting point for wiring up that topology visibility.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-LLDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks media converters/switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll tnLldpConfigTable/tnLldpConfigEntry indexed by tnLldpConfigIfIndex to check tnLldpConfigAdminState per port, confirming LLDP is enabled where neighbor discovery is expected, and tnLldpConfigCdpAware to see if CDP compatibility mode is active. The global tnLldpConfigGlobalMsgTxInterval and tnLldpConfigGlobalMsgTxHold values determine how quickly a lost neighbor is detected; misconfigured timers could delay detection of a downed link. The tnLldpConfigMedTable/tnLldpConfigMedEntry lets an operator verify LLDP-MED settings used for VoIP phone auto-configuration on a given port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port LLDP admin state
  • LLDP timer configuration (tx interval/hold/delay)
  • CDP-awareness setting
  • LLDP-MED configuration
  • optional TLV advertisement settings
