Category: Ethernet OAM, Transition Networks Media Converters
Description: Manages Transition Networks link OAM extension attributes and vendor-specific TLVs.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TN-LOAM-EXT-MIB?
TN-LOAM-EXT-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary extension to IEEE 802.3ah Clause 57 Link OAM (Operations, Administration, and Maintenance), adding vendor-specific attributes and TLVs for managing Ethernet link-level OAM behavior on Transition Networks equipment. It exposes per-interface OAM mode control, statistics-clearing actions, and OAM sublayer state such as multiplexer (MUX) and parser (PAR) state machine status. Its monitoring value is centered on link-level fault and status detection rather than general hardware health, letting an administrator confirm whether a link's OAM discovery has completed and whether the local OAM entity is correctly forwarding or discarding non-OAM frames during fault conditions. It extends the standard IEEE 802.3ah Link OAM MIB (DOT3-OAM-MIB) with vendor-specific enterprise objects. It is typically deployed on Transition Networks media converters and Ethernet extension devices used in carrier and industrial access networks. Engineers can download the TN-LOAM-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-LOAM-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Transition Networks media converter
- Ethernet extension/access device supporting 802.3ah Link OAM
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll tnLOAMIfMgmtTable (tnLOAMIfMgmtEntry) to check tnLOAMIfModeCtrl (active/passive OAM mode) and read tnLOAMIfMUXState and tnLOAMIfPARState to confirm the interface's OAM multiplexer and parser have reached their forwarding state. Invoking tnLOAMIfClearStats resets OAM counters after a suspected fault, and receiving a trap from tnLOAMNotifications alongside a stuck tnLOAMIfPARState would indicate the remote OAM peer is not responding correctly, pointing to a link OAM negotiation failure.
What Can Be Monitored
- Link OAM mode (active/passive) per interface
- OAM multiplexer (MUX) state
- OAM parser (PAR) state
- OAM statistics counters
- OAM fault notifications
