Category: Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks device IP address configuration and interface management v2.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-DEV-SYS-IP2-MIB?

This Transition Networks proprietary MIB manages IP-layer configuration on TN devices, covering IPv4/IPv6 addressing, DHCP client behavior, and DNS proxy/server settings ("IP2" denoting its second-generation IP management module). It exposes per-interface IP configuration (VLAN binding, DHCP enable), DNS server configuration entries, and DNS proxy mode settings. Its monitoring relevance is mainly configuration/software status of the device's network stack: tnIp2IntDHCPEnable and the interface table reveal whether an interface is obtaining its address dynamically, which is useful for confirming a device didn't silently fall back to a static or default address after a DHCP failure. As a device-specific MIB it relies on generic IETF IP/DNS/DHCP conventions rather than a specific standards MIB, and it's a companion to other TN-DEV-SYS-* device-management MIBs. It's typically deployed on Transition Networks managed media converters, switches, or NIDs where IP-based management access needs to be configured and verified. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the TN-DEV-SYS-IP2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-DEV-SYS-IP2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks managed media converter/switch/NID

Monitoring Examples

An admin checks tnIp2InterfaceTable / tnIp2InterfaceEntry keyed by tnIp2IntVlan to confirm tnIp2IntDHCPEnable is set as expected and that the interface obtained a valid address, which matters when a device unexpectedly becomes unreachable via its management IP. Reviewing tnIp2DnsServerConfTable / tnIp2DnsServerConfEntry (indexed by tnIp2DnsServerIndex) verifies the correct tnIp2DnsServerAddr and tnIp2DnsServerMode are configured, and tnIp2DnsProxy is checked when name resolution through the device's DNS proxy stops working for downstream clients.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCP enable status per interface
  • DNS server address configuration
  • DNS proxy mode
  • VLAN binding for management interface
