Category: Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks device IP management interface address and routing parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-DEV-SYS-IPMGMT-MIB?

TN-DEV-SYS-IPMGMT-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary MIB for the management-interface IP stack of their media-conversion and network-edge devices, covering IPv4/IPv6 addressing, DHCP, and DNS configuration for the device's own management access. It exposes configuration data such as address assignment mode, static IP/subnet/gateway settings, and DNS server entries used to reach the device's management plane. Its monitoring value is chiefly in confirming the device's software-level management connectivity is correctly configured and reachable, e.g. verifying the management IP, gateway, and DNS servers currently in effect rather than hardware health per se. It builds on standard TCP/IP addressing concepts (IPv4/IPv6, DHCP, DNS) but is not shown to formally import other MIBs beyond Transition Networks' own private enterprise tree. It is typically deployed on Transition Networks media converters, switches, or NIDs where administrators need to confirm or troubleshoot the unit's own management IP connectivity. Engineers can download the TN-DEV-SYS-IPMGMT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-DEV-SYS-IPMGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks media converters
  • Transition Networks managed switches/NIDs

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll tnIpMgmtTable/tnIpMgmtEntry to read tnIpAddressMode, tnIpAddrType, tnIpAddr, tnSubnetMask, and tnDefaultGateway to confirm the device's management interface is using the expected static or DHCP-assigned address. Checking tnDnsServerTable/tnDnsServerEntry (tnDnsServerIndex, tnDnsServerIPAddrType) reveals whether DNS servers are properly configured, which would explain a device failing to resolve NTP or syslog hostnames. If tnIpMgmtAccess shows management access disabled or restricted unexpectedly, that flags a configuration lockout risk.

What Can Be Monitored

  • management IP address and mode
  • subnet mask and default gateway
  • DNS server configuration
  • IPv6 management addressing
  • management access mode
