Category: Nokia Carrier Ethernet

Description: Manages Nokia carrier Ethernet BFD session configuration and protocol state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-BFD-MIB?

This is a Nokia (SROS) private MIB for managing Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) sessions and templates on carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS routers. It exposes primarily configuration data, such as BFD template transmit/receive intervals, multiplier, and echo interval, alongside administrative and operational objects tracking session and template state. The operational objects let administrators monitor the software/protocol status of BFD, confirming templates are correctly applied and committed so that fast failure-detection timers are active where intended. BFD itself is a standards-based (RFC 5880) protocol, so this MIB likely complements standard BFD and routing-protocol MIBs for full path-failure monitoring. It is typically deployed in service-provider and carrier Ethernet networks running Nokia SROS routers requiring sub-second link/path failure detection, where TN-BFD-MIB SNMP monitoring confirms BFD templates are committed and active.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-BFD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia 1830 PSS (Photonic Service Switch) optical transport platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks tnBfdAdminTemplateTable / tnBfdAdminTemplateEntry to confirm a given tnBfdAdminTemplateName has the intended tnBfdAdminTemplateTxInt, tnBfdAdminTemplateRxInt, and tnBfdAdminTemplateMultiplier values, then verifies tnBfdAdminControlApply and tnBfdAdminTemplateRowStatus to confirm the template was actually committed. If tnBfdAdminLastSetTimeout shows a failed apply or a template has an unexpected multiplier, BFD sessions using it may fail to detect link failures within the required time.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BFD template transmit interval
  • BFD template receive interval
  • BFD multiplier setting
  • echo receive interval
  • template row/commit status
