tcpRtoAlgorithm

Module: TCP-MIB

OID (symbolic): TCP-MIB::tcpRtoAlgorithm

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.6.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The algorithm used to determine the timeout value used for retransmitting unacknowledged octets.

What is tcpRtoAlgorithm?

This read-only object specifies which algorithm the TCP implementation uses to compute retransmission timeout (RTO) intervals for unacknowledged data segments. Common algorithms include Van Jacobson's adaptive algorithm (used by most modern systems) or constant timeout values. Network operators examine this to understand how the system adapts packet retransmission timing to network conditions.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.6.1
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> TCP-MIB::tcpRtoAlgorithm

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.6.1.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> TCP-MIB::tcpRtoAlgorithm.1
