tcpRetransSegs
Module: TCP-MIB
OID (symbolic): TCP-MIB::tcpRetransSegs
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.6.12
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Counter32
Access: read-only
Description: The total number of segments retransmitted; that is, the number of TCP segments transmitted containing one or more previously transmitted octets.
Discontinuities in the value of this counter are indicated via discontinuities in the value of sysUpTime.
What is tcpRetransSegs?
This OID is a counter tracking how many TCP data segments had to be resent because the original transmission was not acknowledged. It measures network reliability and packet loss. An operator monitors this to detect poor network conditions or congestion that causes retransmissions and slowdowns.
Examples
Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.6.12 snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> TCP-MIB::tcpRetransSegs
Get a specific instance (index 1):
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.6.12.1 snmpget -v2c -c public <target> TCP-MIB::tcpRetransSegs.1
