Category: Timing and Synchronization

Description: Manages Symmetricom network timing reference sources, priority, and synchronization selection.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SYMMCOMMONNETWORK?

SYMMCOMMONNETWORK is a Symmetricom (precision timing/synchronization vendor) proprietary MIB providing common Ethernet, IPv4, and VLAN configuration/status shared across Symmetricom timing products. Its objects cover an Ethernet-link table (speed, status), auto-negotiation table (state, speed), an IPv4-configuration table (address origin, address, default route, subnet mask, port state), and an IPv4 static-route table (interface index, destination address, mask, next hop). As a configuration/status MIB it lets an administrator confirm a Symmetricom timing appliance's network-layer configuration and link state. It is deployed on Symmetricom precision-timing appliances. Engineers can download the SYMMCOMMONNETWORK file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SYMMCOMMONNETWORK. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Symmetricom precision-timing appliances

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks networkEthLinkStatus and networkIPv4Address to confirm network connectivity is up and correctly addressed on a Symmetricom timing appliance.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Ethernet link state and IPv4 configuration
