Category: Server and Hardware Management, System Monitoring
Description: Monitors Super Micro server health including CPU, memory, fan, temperature, and power sensor data.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SUPERMICRO-HEALTH-MIB?
SUPERMICRO-HEALTH-MIB is a proprietary module from Super Micro Computer, Inc. for monitoring the physical health of Supermicro servers and their motherboards. It exposes a generic health-monitor table covering sensor name, type, and current reading alongside configured high/low limits and historical min/max readings. Its purpose is explicitly hardware-status monitoring: tracking CPU/ambient temperature, fan speeds, and voltage/power sensor readings so that overheating, fan failure, or power-supply irregularities can be detected before they cause a server outage. It is a self-contained vendor MIB not dependent on other standard hardware MIBs. It is deployed via Supermicro's onboard BMC/IPMI-to-SNMP bridge on Supermicro server and workstation motherboards in data centers, making SUPERMICRO-HEALTH-MIB SNMP monitoring a standard part of hardware health tracking there.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SUPERMICRO-HEALTH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Supermicro server
- Supermicro motherboard/BMC
Monitoring Examples
An admin walks the smHealthMonitorTable/smHealthMonitorEntry, using smHealthMonitorName and smHealthMonitorType to identify each sensor (e.g., a CPU temperature or fan-speed sensor), and compares smHealthMonitorReading against smHealthMonitorHighLimit and smHealthMonitorLowLimit. A reading crossing smHealthMonitorHighLimit, or a divergence between smHealthMonitorReading and the recorded smHealthMonitorMaxReading, would flag an overheating CPU or a fan that has slowed or failed.
What Can Be Monitored
- CPU/ambient temperature readings
- fan speed readings
- voltage/power sensor readings
- sensor high/low limit thresholds
- sensor historical min/max readings
